Mr Andrew William Kiel
Consultant Ophthalmologist
Ipswich Hospital and
The Suffolk Nuffield.

Because glaucoma is not a straight forward diagnosis and there are many questions
asked by my patients, I have set up this website to try and explain the condition
in a bit more detail and in a way that they will find easy to understand. It is necessary
for people with, or suspected of having, glaucoma to understand the condition and
to realise that it is important to take any treatment prescribed and to attend all
hospital appointments. It is important, too, to realise that treatment is usually
to prevent things from getting worse rather than a cure for the condition.
About Me.
Recently, I was a principal investigator in research into the use of prophylactic antibiotics in cataract surgery. This research was run by the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and involved 16,000 patients recruited from 24 centres throughout Europe.
